story at the time through out the progressive media. The delay of the hostages was absolutely engineered to help Reagan win the election.
Not that Carter was all that "pure". He should not ever have allowed the Shah into the country. But I suppose after the CIA coup in Iran that put the Shah into power, ousting the democratically elected president, and creating great suffering of the Iranian people and their decades long enmityperhaps Carter felt he had no choice. But he was a weak leader, and a better post-President than President.
A tawdry tragedy from beginning to end. And I think Cheney and Rumsfield were again in the deep backgroundplotting for oil.
Thom Hartmann has done an entire segment on this hostage timing. Perhaps it's on the "interwebs".
