Bottom line is that right-wing authoritarians are motivated by fear, and particularly fear of change. All of us are susceptible to manipulation by fear, but only RWAs double down on the lies when they are exposed. They rely upon stubbornness to cover for their stupidity, which of course makes them even easier to manipulate.

Hermann Goering summed Trump's plan succinctly:
