Credit the success of the Rafical Right. The Religious Right, the Koch brothers, and other outfits successfully ran moderates, moderate-conservatives, and even sane conservatives out of party caucuses and sane Republicans out of office.

The only people with levers on power in the GOP are their extremists; they control the Republican Party. The only reason that more people don't realize it is that the Right runs superb propaganda, most people don't think for themselves, and the lame-stream corporate media isn't brave enough to say that the Republicans have gone nuts.

I left the Republican Party decades ago because I knew the moderates had already been sidelined and because I had no desire to be a "useful idiot" for the likes of Newt Gingrich and Grover Norquist.
