Selective service is a tool for a draft that may never come. If we need it again one day for some yet unknown reason, better to have the ability than not.

That said, I'd not be keen on serving with those who never wanted to be there. Those types make up too much of the volunteer military as is, and they are terrible for cohesion, effectiveness, and morale. I like our current volunteer system. Someone who is there because they want to be will usually be a better soldier than someone who would've rather stayed home

If we are going to maintain the selective service system, we should have it apply to both sexes, imo.
