(58,785 posts)leaders have pointed out that if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it. So terribly true. But let's not let "people" off the hook. Informing ourselves is OUR responsibility, no one else's. In the Information Age
* Being too lazy to check important info is shameful and no excuse.
* Wanting to believe lies is extremely immoral and worse than no excuse.
Our job is to be good citizens. If we fail to do that, others will always make decisions for us. That has been reality all the way back to when we spent most of our time picking bugs out of each others' fur.
IMO, for too many the bottom line is "they" did it. Always blaming others instead of our own failure of duty.
The real bottom line is that we are ultimately the "they" who failed and betrayed ourselves. It cannot be done to us without our help, whether the complete negligence of paying no attention, passive collusion, or active support. A prime example is willfully and deliberately choosing to tune the radio to "lies and the lying liars who tell them" as Al Franken put it in his book title.
