If you're interested in this then you need to watch Zizek's film The Pervert's Guide to Ideology. And I do mean that you need to watch it, because your claim that 'one side fighting for change to stop the carnage, because our country is ruled by corporate overlords and money, and the other side refusing to see the truth about what our government is doing to us' is exactly the sort of ideological self-deception that Zizek is trying to point out. If you watch his whole film (or read his books, but they're not exactly accessible to the casual reader) then you'll have a great deal to think about. I'm opposed to Bernie precisely because he's so ideological. Hillary Clinton is simply not the evil corporate monster that Bernie fans insist on painting her as, and the inability of some on the left to distinguish between her and the GOP borders on the delusional.

You really, really need to watch Zizek's whole film. He is making a much deeper point than the one you have taken away from this second-hand discussion of the topic.
