(59,501 posts)If she feels it is needed, others can point out that Mr Trump was not really "better" than Bill Clinton. Others can point out that almost all of the meme that Hillary Clinton led the attack is coming from flaky sources and it is very likely not true. (Not to create trouble, but I suspect many remember that in 1992, it was Bettie Currie who was tasked to keep down "Bimbo eruptions" and Carvelle and Begala were out there as well -- not Hillary Clinton.
Personally, I think it might be better to have no one connected to the campaign respond at all. The reason is that ANY reaction gives this at least another media cycle ... and likely more as Trump will respond.
Years ago, on DU when obnoxious untrue threads showed up on a politician I liked, wiser people than me argued to "let it sink" -- that fighting it just caused it to be discussed further. Though obviously, what HRC's campaign is dealing with is not arguments on DU, I think the same basic idea might be in play.
I think Trump's reason of bringing it up is because he senses that there are liberals who really do have problems with BILL Clinton's actions and that it makes them uncomfortable. However, the big reason is that the "nasty enabler" clearly tries to negatively characterize Hillary as not likable. Therefore, if anything, HRC should take the high road and just say something to the effect that it is sad that Trump uses tabloids and gossip magazines as his primary news sources and that there are important issues that should be given more time than things like this.
