However it happened though, the point is the Democratic Part--the People's Party--is not aligned with the interests of the majority of working Americans and has not been for some time. The DLC and the Clintons were more about making that official than causing it in the first place. The Democratic party has been getting by on gains in social issues, and like the Republicans have been happy to confine their efforts to that, while ignoring the economic ones and allowing the middle class to collapse. If you haven't noticed, the "working class" is getting bigger while the middle class is shrinking and both are feeling disenfranchised. So the question becomes who will harness that energy, and will it be for the good of all, or for the few? Our choices at the moment are a narcissistic fascist demagogue, a people's activist, and a proud defender of the status quo.
