Not even a majority, More of them so far did not vote for him even given the other alternatives. Some are in open rebellion against him and some have been for quite some time.

Raygun on the other hand was bringing morning to America against an unpopular, at the time, president. With the promise of freeing the hostages.

There is really no comparison there that I can see.
