(561 posts)December 21, 1988 All 243 passengers and 16 crew members were killed, as were eleven residents of Lockerbie on the ground. Of the 270 total fatalities, 189 were American citizens and 43 were British citizens.
Thirty-five of the passengers were students from Syracuse University returning home for Christmas following a semester studying in London at Syracuse's London campus.
