Flopping on your face is usually a learning experience. When you see a guy being a dumbass on TV and his wife/GF/sister standing back and saying, "Gee, Tony, I don't know if using duct tape, coke, and mentos to turn your shoes into jet shoes and jumping over that barbed wire fence is such a good idea..." what you're watching is women being socialized into being non-risk takers and perpetual caretakers of men, regardless of merit.

Yes, I can see how even the dumbass antics of Homer and Family Guy and Tim the Toolman and Everybody Loves Raymond reinforces male self esteem.
