50. In many ways, Americans are children when it comes to their history

Either/Or arguments works very well on them. Nuanced ones don't. They don't really want to know the full tally of their complicity in the horrors that built this country. They don't want to believe that the soldiers in Vietnam or Iraq died for nothing - that their lives were wasted.

A presidential campaign is not when the accounting you want is going to happen. There are too many who are simply incapable of self-reflection and evolution who are going to take offense.

I still believe America has done great things, has great natural beauty, and is filled with great people. Of course, that applies to nearly every other nation on the planet as well. Just don't tell that to white people if you want to get elected.
