4. Alan Young wasn't the first person cast in the role of Wilbur Post

In the un-aired pilot, the show was called "Wilbur Pope and Mister Ed" and starred Scott McKay and Sandra White. CBS wasn't interested, so Studebaker purchased the show and released it in syndication. It was then that the title was changed to "Mister Ed," the main characters' surname was changed from Pope to Post, and the leads were cast with Alan Young and the lovely Connie Hines. It was an instant hit and CBS picked it up the following year.



Connie Hines died in 2009 at the age of 78.
