Although we met here on DU, Newton (RushisRot) and I became RL friends via FaceBook. We often engaged in late night chats, and he was of particular comfort when my husband passed a year ago.

He was a fan of my writing (okay - so nobody is perfect!) and encouraged me to continue with my scribblings.

We were polar opposites when it came to lifestyle choices - he loved his off-the-beaten-track cabin as much as I love my heart-of-the-city house. And yet we connected in ways that have nothing to do with where one resides, or what compels them to do so.

He often spoke of his "woodland friends", and had great tales to tell about their comings and goings in his life. '

I now wonder who misses him more - me or them.

Thanks for the update on Rascal. I am certain that wherever Newt is, he is happy to know that his companion is being loved and looked after.

He was a special man, that fiesty ol' guy - and I will miss him every day that is left to me.
