Memorial Day week end, and boy are WE on the map. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama [View all]

The two main (and only) arteries to and from the beach are U.S. Highway 59 and the Foley-Beach Expressway.

They are both bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go, as far as the eye can see now.
Locals know all the back roads and short-and-long cuts to avoid these roads.

Hurricanes Ivan (9/16/04) and Katrina (8/29/05) gave us a lot of national coverage.
The BP oil spill gave us MASSIVE international exposure.

So now a lot of folks know that Alabama has BEACHES!
Blindingly white beaches.
Beaches of finely ground quartz sand (not coral) from retreating glaciers eons ago that squeaks when you walk on it.

Now that you know, please just stay home.
Or go to Miami.
Or Cancun.
Or the French Riviera.

Thank you.
