Does ISIS behave in a manner contrary to the Quran? Of course they do. No religious person or sect on the face of the fucking planet behaves in a manner totally consistent with the dictates of their holy book. But religion is more than just words on paper. Religion is also a function of its followers, their beliefs, and their actions. Cultural differentiation makes it impossible to define any of the three major religions in propositional terms. So saying shit like, "THAT'S NOT CHRISTIAN" or "THAT'S NOT ISLAM" displays nothing but a dim understanding of the sociology of religion, offers no useful information whatsoever, and actually inhibits progress by trying to shut down critical conversation.
