(4,234 posts)as long as the voting machines count the votes. Roy Barnes lost to Sonny Perdue in 2002 and Max Cleland' lost in the same election cycle to another Repub because of the Diebold machines that counted the whole vote in total secrecy. The whole election took place only in cyberspace. Barnes had an 11-point lead in the pre-election polls right before the election and Cleland had a substantial lead as well. Both lost.
That to my mind was the beginning of the reign of the false results in elections all over the country that came courtesy of the voting machines. I believe Cleland now believes it was the machines by the way. Of course there's no way anybody can know one way or the other because those machines in that election were COMPLETELY UNVERIFIABLE. There was no way to have a meaningful audit or recount. For the most part that is still true throughout the country.
