You're presupposing that bigots aren't incredibly cynical, but most are. He is actively courting the support of white nationalists and xenophobes in general. He may not actually believe all the bulllshit he says, but that's true of most racists. Racism is a system of exploiting privilege and denigrating minorities in order to get ahead. He's a classical bigot.
