"...people can't believe it." Who are "people?"

He even said "People say I have 'the most beautiful hands'."

He sets up "people" so that he can avoid taking responsibility for owning his own viewpoint. Instead, he's merely paying heed to "people." These are the sorts of individuals to watch out for.
