Gun Control and assimilation isn't enough. We need to punish states that inspire this crap. [View all]
Terrorists have international suppliers financed by oil money from the middle east to smuggle them weapons (as has happened repeatedly in Europe, which has strict gun control laws). They also have sources of alternative media that inspire these people and find safe-harbors in Middle eastern countries, many of which pay lip service to an alliance with us. No amount of moderate Imam's extorting peace is going to change the mind of someone constantly being trickle-fed hate from servers hosted in Saudi Arabia or from "special lecturers" that come in and tell them homosexuals deserve death. Talking only about gun control doesn't solve the problem. We also need aggressive diplomatic intervention to economically punish and isolate states (like Saudi Arabia and Qatar) that continue to provide money to arm and comfort to people seeking to kill our civilians.
We need to end arms sales to these nations and find alternative sources of energy to cut of their funding, at least until we can be hundred percent sure they are no longer arming terrorists. Otherwise, nothing we do domestically will matter, because a great deal of our problems originate from rogue terrorist states like Saudi Arabia.
Why is this part of the equation constantly missing from the dialog?
