transplant from Maine, and went to Florida State, then on to Northwestern near Chicago.

While Florida's nature is wild and scruffy, it's still interesting and its bird world is amazing.

I'd say from living there that it's 50% backward.

But if I were you, I'd step foot along the coasts. You might be pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of people there -- mostly northerners, midwesterners and Canadians -- and the healing, gentle ocean experience.
