The rifle used in the Newtown slaughter was not an assault weapon per Connecticut law.

"Assault weapon" continues to be an arbitrary and poorly-defined term used to inflame passions without resolving anything.

If Senator Murphy and other gun-control advocates who seek to address this issue from a hardware perspective, then the solution is obvious:


Banning, or putting them in the same legal category of full-auto guns, all semi-automatic long guns.

Anything is stupid, useless, and pandering. It's guaranteed to put more Republicans in office without saving a single life.
