In reply to the discussion: OK, time to post again the 14 defining characteristics of fascism. [View all]mathematic
(1,605 posts)The one condition that we best meet is the first one, "Powerful and Continuing Nationalism". While we don't have government mandated flag waving on TV or giant pictures of our President on billboards (outside of election season, of course!), it's still safe to say the people really do seem to love the United States. Go figure.
The iffy second condition is "Corporate Power is Protected". If it's on the list solely to distinguish right-authoritarianism from left-authoritarianism then any nation that protects private property rights and has a free market capitalist system (which, for reference, includes all european nations) satisfies this condition. If this condition means that corporations control and dictate government policy then, no, we do not satisfy this condition.
