19. I saw the "self loathing" assumption as homophobic

But the idea that someone who is gay would kill over a relationship gone wrong does not strike me as homophobic because it is not possible to credibly claim that such an act is exclusive to gay couples. In fact, domestic violence is so frequently a part of heterosexual relationships that are laws specifically designed to address it.

I had an aunt who had been married twice before she came out. There is a lot of speculation and instant scapegoating after this. I don't know what led him to do this, but killing over relationships is pretty common and seems to me to be a reasonable possibile influence.
