Judge Dismisses Theater Shooting Lawsuits Against Cinemark

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS AURORA, Colo. — Jun 24, 2016, 10:16 PM ET

A federal judge has dismissed a consolidated group of lawsuits brought against the owner of the Colorado movie theater where a gunman killed 12 people and wounded 70 others.

The Aurora Sentinel reports ( http://goo.gl/Ax99rN ) that Judge R. Brooke Jackson on Friday dismissed the lawsuits brought against Cinemark by several victims of the July 20, 2012, attack. The judge wrote that any inaction by the theater owner was not "a substantial factor in causing this tragedy."

Each of the plaintiffs said the theater did not do enough to ensure their safety on the night of the shooting.

In May, jurors in a similar lawsuit found that Cinemark was not liable for the rampage, rejecting arguments that the theater should have foreseen the possibility of violence at a crowded midnight premiere.

Good. The only responsible party was the shooter himself. Just reading posts Jun 2016 #1
Not so fast...it's time the gun manufacturers were held responsible for the blood that's on their hands. InAbLuEsTaTe Jun 2016 #2
Did they make or sell the product illegally? NobodyHere Jun 2016 #4
How so? They're no more responsible than the manufacturer of a knife that's used to stab someone to Just reading posts Jun 2016 #14
Hillary supports suing the gun manufacturers... she's right about that! Why don't you support her on this critical issue? InAbLuEsTaTe Jun 2016 #16
Because I disagree with her on this issue. One that will (IMHO) cost her votes in the General. Just reading posts Jun 2016 #17
I disagree. If you claim a public space is a "gun free zone" Kang Colby Jun 2016 #3
So you want metal detectors and security staff at any place that claims to be a gun free zone? NobodyHere Jun 2016 #5
Yes. If they claim "gun free zone" status, Kang Colby Jun 2016 #6
Is there any actual gun free zone regulatory criteria in law? NobodyHere Jun 2016 #8
Sure. Courts in some states as an example. Kang Colby Jun 2016 #9
But is there actual law codifying what "Gun Free Zone" mean? NobodyHere Jun 2016 #11
Not sure. I doubt it. Kang Colby Jun 2016 #12
There will never be a movie made that I'd want to see that badly. WillowTree Jun 2016 #15
yes a police/security state is the solution. Every building must have metal detectors & armed guards TeamPooka Jun 2016 #7
Because signs alone have proven to stop mass shooters. Kang Colby Jun 2016 #10
Do you want people searched when they leave the building too? TeamPooka Jun 2016 #13
