In reply to the discussion: Petition for SECOND EU referendum sees so many signatures it CRASHES website [View all]Denzil_DC
(9,097 posts)I signed, but that petition's an imperfect instrument, as I knew when I did so.
With three million signatories and counting, we can easily hit the 100,000 mark for parliament to consider it no matter how they try to whittle it down. I suspect any fraud isn't going to be significant because of the way the petition's administered anyway.
It's headline news on the BBC hourly. It matters a LOT right now that we fight back against the idea this is all done and dusted. The political parties and media seem to think it's a done deal. It really isn't. Heads are rolling all over the place.
It's a bit like the 2000 US election result. We have to make some serious noise. There's a lot of buyers' remorse. This is just a small part of reflecting that and ensuring half the population's wishes aren't just ignored. They wouldn't have been if the vote had gone the other way, it would all be about it not being conclusive enough, still an open question, etc. etc.
