(7,981 posts)67. This is what I did -- worked fine.

I had a very bad Windows 8 experience -- Microsoft really screwed up with that one, basically exerting their right to control everything. The most arrogant decision Ever; they should have canned the guy who thought it was all right to engage customers in that fashion.
The corporate culture at Microsoft is poisoned. I have to use Windows; I run a small business that relies on database programming. But the fact that Microsoft forces me to seek out solutions to their insidious attempts to dominate every aspect of my digital life has left a deep, deep resentment that will not soon go away.
They could just make it all user-friendly and stop pushing their crap; I'd be fine with the bugs and problems as long as they weren't shoving their bizarre dominance tricks at me.
Stupid. Very, very stupid. Windows 10 is functional, as long as you know how to disable the spyware they want to install. However, on my main machines -- Windows 7 is perfectly fine, and I don't intend to upgrade until Hell Freezes Over, or until they decide to push me too hard and I migrate over to Linux or something else.

The very same thing happened to me. I was asked if I wanted Win 10 to upgrade. I said no.

Good for people that don't want to learn how to use a PC for anything more than a word processor.
