In reply to the discussion: I believe that Trump will pick Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana for VP [View all]Chellee
(2,300 posts)and he would absolutely appeal to the social conservatives, however, Pence is a true believer. I can't see him accepting. He will adhere to his faith principles even when they don't make any sense. For example, Pence believes abortion causes breast cancer. He's a climate change denier, and a creationist. If we could find a passage in the bible that said the Earth was flat, he'd be panicked about falling off the edge. Trump will want a sycophant, and Pence won't be able to deliver if he realizes that Trump hasn't "repented" his previous lifestyle.
That's really all the social conservatives have got, the belief that Trump is a brand new christian and he's forgiven for all the wives and affairs, and Howard Stern interviews from the past. If/When they figure out he's still that same guy, they won't be able to support him. Unfortunately, there's more than enough raging racists in the Republican party to keep him afloat. They don't give a rat's patoot about his sex life, except to admire it.
Christie could certainly butt-kiss enough, but he's too smart and ambitious for Trump's comfort. What he'll want is someone like Palin, except more hard-working, since Trump will make the VP do the day to day work of the Presidency. He doesn't actually want to do the job of President, he just wants the title and deference. But still, he'll want the flashy crowd draw, combined with absolute fawning and loyalty. Maybe he'll choose his daughter. That's just about the way his mind works.
You're right, Brownback is just the same as Pence. I think Brownback actually believes that tax cuts somehow create tax revenue, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And the media only care about making money. They certainly don't care about telling people the truth. The truth is boring, and doesn't bring up the ratings.
