51. "Hybrid" does NOT refer exclusively to offspring of different species

It refers to two genotypes mixing. They may be different breeds (eg dachshunds and corgis), races (if you'll accept that loaded term for purposes of this discussion) or simply plant colors. I think you can agree that corgis and dachshunds are the same canid species. Successful cross-species breeding is in fact unusual, otherwise we'd see more of it. The inability to reproduce and make fertile offspring is, in fact, what partly defines separate species.

You might want to look up "heterosis", previously known as heterozygosis for a more complete explanation of what I mean by hybrid vigor.
