Oscar Pistorius has arrived in court, waiting for proceedings to get under way.

Murder carries a 15-year minimum jail term in South Africa.

Judge Thokozile Masipa will have to consider whether there are compelling reasons for deviating from the prescribed sentence.

After the sentencing, there are two options.
1. If neither the prosecution nor the defence appeals, Pistorius must report to prison within 48 hours to begin his sentence.
2. If either side petitions the court for leave to appeal, Pistorius can apply to have bail conditions extended. He is currently under house arrest at his uncle's home in Pretoria. Bail would be decided today.
