IIRC, a mid-level aide in the Nixon administration was testifying before The Irwin Committee. During the course of some routine questioning by one of the committee counsel, he said "everything in the Oval is taped".

It was televised and I still remember seeing eyeballs pop out of their sockets. WTF??? You mean there are tapes of all these conversations ????

Republicans continue to hope for their Butterfield moment...the point where some low level nobody "spills the beans". And they're not going to stop committees and questioning until they find something that sticks. Which means they aint' going to stop this shit no matter how much it wastes the country's time and money.
