Public Schools? To Kansas Conservatives, Theyre Government Schools
To those who want to empower the strong and ruthless to exploit and crush the weak without let or hindrance, a government "of the people, by the people, for the people" is anathema.
To the oligarchs whose power and wealth depends on cheap labor and a docile underclass, public education is the quintessential threat.
To the extremist fundamentalist would-be theocrats, critical thinking is the last weapon they want available to their opponents.
This is nothing new, really.
The attack on public education is more than forty years along. They've been chipping away at it here, swinging a wrecking ball there, deforming and disempowering it somewhere else. They've been systematically destroying teaching as a profession, and belittling the value of education itself.
They've nearly succeeded.
So I'm not at all suprised that they've now pulled out the semantic artillery to dogwhistle their ignorant mobs into a final frenzied orgy of self-debasing destruction.
disgustedly,
