(11,936 posts)...constitutes liberalism. It has an actual definition that you weren't asked to write. It also has a societal context that varies by country, something that you also, do not get to decide.
I support single payer, but you can have other stances on healthcare and still be a liberal. The healthcare plan that Obama signed is still an extremely liberal plan, whether some want to admit it or not. That bill raised Medicaid eligibility and provides lower income people who aren't eligible subsidies to purchase something. There is nothing conservative about that. That bill also tells insurance companies a lot of "what they can and can't do" and puts them under a lot of restrictions they were definately not under before, there is also nothing conservative about that. Its not something thats subject to an opinion. The word liberal has an actual definition and there is no way you can argue that the healthcare bill, despite its flaws, does not qualify for the meeting that definition. That doesn't mean you have to like the healthcare bill. That just means its liberal and you still don't like it. Thats fine. Just don't pretend you get to decide what these words mean. You don't.
