In reply to the discussion: Jeb Bush Excommunicated From Republican Party [View all]LongTomH
(8,636 posts)There is almost certainly a behind-the-scenes battle for control of the GOP; but, it's far from certain who will be left standing when the smoke clears. A fratricidal battle in the GOP may be our best hope to keep control of the Senate and White House in 2012; however, don't and I repeat, don't count the Tea Party crazies out!
The most likely outcome will be, that the Teahadists will re-emerge by 2016, more likely by 2014, rebranded and with new slogans. The people behind the Tea Party are largely people who were active in the Religious Right in the Reagan years. The whacko wing of the Republican party is not going to relinquish control! We may see a brief period, after the election when the brain-free media announce that "The moderates have retaken control of the Republican party from 'the conservatives.'" The M$Media, of course, refers to the far right as 'moderates' and the absolute loonies as 'conservatives.' I think we all realize that there hasn't been any such thing as a Republican 'moderate' for more than a generation!
The Tea Party is an astroturf, Frankenstein monster created by big money types like the Koch brothers and Machiavellian strategists like Norquist and Karl Rove. If the monster meets his end in a burning windmill, well, back to the lab!
