I've long since lost count of the people I've seen educated who became horrified when they were drawn out of their unique perspective and began to realize what was going on.

Trevor Noah made that point eloquently on The Daily Show when referencing the cat call video as he addressed the institutionalized racism in law enforcement. He shared a poignant and relevant personal experience of his reaction when he realized he had no clue what women endure daily on the streets.

It's much the same thing. If you're in a position of advantage, you're often blind to the reality that what you consider the normal state of being is in fact an advantage, and others don't have what you take for granted.
