Republicans wouldn't support it because it gives more wealth to the poor-middle class. A higher minimum wage means lower profits for the corporations and less money in the hands of the CEO's. This is obviously antithetical to the G.O.P's "Corporations First" agenda. You know, since corporations are people, my friend.
