(45,319 posts)to actually look at where on TV they get that news and the answer is 'Not Cable'. I know this often shocks the politics fans but most Americans don't watch cable news at all.
Among Americans who get their news from television, the vast majority get that news from one of the three broadcast networks. It is a fact that on any given night that each of the three major broadcast networks have an audience for their own news program that is larger than the audience for all cable news programming in the same hour. Each of the three outpace all of the cable networks combined.
So on a night where cable does very well and a total of 4 million watch cable news shows on CNN, FoxNews and MSNBC the networks will each have 7-12 million views and a combined total over 22 million viewers, about 18 million more than watch cable news for their news.
