I still wonder how much energy prices and consumer fear figured into the timing of the crash. Borrowing was over-extended and there were a lot of folks who weren't going to be able to heat their homes, eat, and put gas in their cars.

Of course that would be perspective of the privileged who had mortgages and cars to be underwater with.
