My dad had a stroke a while back and I put together a playlist for him-- he'd lost the capacity to produce or understand speech but he'd always loved music so, so much. He died shortly thereafter and we ended up using the playlist at his memorial along with a slideshow of photos. I strongly recommend mixing in songs that will evoke or create happy memories.
Some of my dad's:
Canned Heat-- On the Road again
Sly and the Family Stone-- Everyday People
I think I might have included Dance to the Music too-- dad loved that one:
Stevie Wonder-- Superstition
Also You are the Sunshine of My Life
Robert Palmer Sailing Shoes trilogy
Little Feat-- Fat Man in the Bathtub
Pretty sure I put Dixie Chicken in there, too.
Allmans-- Blue Sky
'
Grateful Dead-- Ripple
Marvin Gaye-- What's Going On
BB King-- The Thrill is Gone
