so that if anything gets hacked, my losses will be minimal. When I have a big purchase coming up, I just transfer some money into it to cover the cost.

The account with the real money in it is at another bank and has no ATM card.

If you've got enough money to do this for online transactions, it can give you peace of mind. You won't be broke while the bank investigates possible fraud.
