The first Nationwide study from the CDC on the health risks faced by LGBTQ youth is horrifying [View all]
This breaks my heart... You know how It's hard for many to trust their employer not to be against them for being gay, so I am sure these "out" or "perceived gay" high school kids are in such hell from their tormenters, because a good third or more of people are still heavily anti-gay and so they say around half don't feel they can report the abuse or assaults to school support or the cops. There's got to be more we can do that changes how other teens treat others different than themselves, especially those who are LGBTQ.
So, fresh off the summer report from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) that said 20-25% of all LGBTQ people will face at least one Hate Crime (that just makes me sick...) in our lives, there is an even more infuriating intensive first time study of High School LGBTQ students, completed by the CDC.

LGBT high schoolers are three times more likely to have been raped than their straight classmates, according to the first nationwide study on the health risks faced by queer youth.

The new Centers for Disease Control study, which asked high school students about their sexuality, found that gay, lesbian and bisexual teens are at far greater risk for physical and sexual violence, bullying, suicide, and other threats to their health than their straight peers.
While it is known that LGBT teens live a harder life because of pressures from parents and peers, previous studies have found LGBT youth are more likely to attempt suicide, to be homeless, and to use drugs.
Dr. Jonathan Mermin with the CDC told United Press International the report is alarming and heartbreaking.

There are loads of statistics in the report highlighted in the CDC Study news story above. Things like 40% of them saying they considered suicide, and 60% saying they feel sad or hopeless, and being 2 times more likely to be victims of violent assault at school, and 4 times more likely to take hard drugs to cope with the stress... It's making me emotional again just thinking about how much pain the million plus LGBTQ high schoolers are suffering right now. Damn bigots need to be stopped at schools!
