Police find kids tied up at Walmart [View all]
LAWRENCE, Kan., June 14 (UPI) -- Police responded to a call at a Lawrence, Kan., Walmart to find two children bound and blindfolded in the parking lot.
When police arrived on the scene Wednesday, two children, ages 5 and 7, were tied up and blindfolded, seated on the ground near a car in the parking lot. A man near the car refused to speak with officers and subsequently resisted arrest, the police report said.
When the man tried to get in the car, police subdued him using a Taser, after which they discovered three more children, ages 12, 13 and 15, in the car.
Officers located the mother of the five children in the Walmart and took her into custody. The couple was charged with two counts of child abuse and five counts of child endangerment, and the man was additionally charged with obstruction of legal process.
The family was evidently coming from Northlake, Ill., on their way to visit relatives in Arizona when they had car trouble, forcing them to stop in Lawrence. Child Protective Services are working on finding temporary homes for the children.
