Oriental breeds are very prone to dental problems. Other than that, they're pretty durable little buggers.
Also, don't forget he's likely a cross, not a pure Siamese, so he might even get through life with no need for oral surgery.
Likely he was exposed to a lot of nasty diseases by the rough start he got in life. Did your vet do the blood work to determine what the mouth ulcer is from? There are quite a few different causes and they all have different treatments.
