Brooklyn to a Congolese father & a Guyanese mother. She is first generation Congolese/Guyanese American, who took advantage of all this country has to offer. She grew up in Denver, and went on to graduate from Harvard in 1991. She's a smart cookie, and I think her parent's immigrant experience comes to mind when she meets bigoted xenophobes face-to-face.
