(10,201 posts)Once a week in 'Merica, actually once every 6 (6.3 days) or so days and unarmed person is killed by the police.
Compound this with the 100's of millions of dollars that cities through the US pay out each year for civil rights violations, excessive force, misconduct, beatings, etc... in 2014 the cities with the 10 largest police forces paid out a hair under $250 million dollars combined.
Then you have the "good officers", you know the ones who stand by and do nothing when they see a fellow officer breaking the law. Then you have more officers who work ever so diligently to help cover for that bad apple when they are investigating themselves. Brings to mind those detectives who deleted surveillance video of a police shooting from that Burger King in Chicago. Or those other officers who arrest or point weapons at people who are filming the police committing a crime. Or those officers who threaten to take away people's children if they seek to file a complaint or lawsuit. It's a far larger issue than you project it to be.
