(21,691 posts)49. Tests do show poisoning, if the right tests are ordered
Heavy metal poisoning (arsenic, thallium, selenium, etc) is rare so those tests are not routinely done. Cyanide and ethylene glycol produce distinct symptoms (poisoning with ethylene glycol makes the victim appear initially to be drunk) and also require specific tests to detect. There are other, even less common agents used to poison victims, but unless there is known ingestion, known threat, distinct symptoms or a very alert doctor, tests for poisons are rarely done PRE-mortum.
