(20,729 posts)the problem is less her race than the fact that she keeps an overgrown yard, which a lot of homeowners are sensitive to.
the city's 12-inch standard is silly but you can see from the picture that she's not growing plants to eat, she's just got a bunch of mint that's been allowed to grow wild all over her yard, plus some junky-looking stakes and strings that don't seem to be marking off anything that looks different from the rest of the yard. is she going to eat all that mint? i doubt it.
since the city ordinance allows for edible plants, it seems to me that its purpose was to prevent people from letting their properties become overgrown, not to force everyone to have a manicured lawn. if she'd made neat beds and kept them weeded or put stuff in pots i doubt she'd have had the same problems.
just my opinion as an urban gardener.
the city workers trashed it though. there was no point in mowing down the borders along her house.
