My family has dealt with hurricanes in Hawaii, Iniki demolished my mothers business and she ended up leaving the islands afterwards.
They had a family with a 2 day old baby when the hurricane hit, (the river flooded under the raised stilted house and they had to escape to higher land when they entered the eye of the hurricane)...
.... anyway, because of the stress of it all, the new mother was unable to produce milk. After the hurricane, there were no stores open, no electricity, etc. and they had a hungry baby to deal with. So our bit of advice to new mothers is to stock up on formula, even if you have no plans on using formula. The entire community got together to help this new mom find some subsistence for her baby since she was unable to provide. The community coming together to help each other was uplifting. But it was months and months until services were restored.
