the idea of a balanced budget sounds appealing, but they clearly have no real interest in that. they like tax cuts too much, along with big business subsidies and a big army (primarily because it's also a big business subsidy). so the only part of "balanced budget" they're willing to put into practice is spending on people who need help.
yet the push the fiction that they want balanced budgets.
the idea of freedom sounds great, but they clearly have no interest in this for actual people. businesses, perhaps, but not actual human beings. they want to regulate, as you point out, who you marry, where you pee, how you plan your family, etc.
yet the push the fiction that they want more freedom for everyone.
they claim to be all for law and order, but their contempt for the law is evident at every turn. they view the law as "unnecessary regulation" and do everything they can to push the envelop, if not outright violate the law, if it suits them. this goes from dodging taxes to outing undercover cia operatives.
yet the push the notion that law and order something they respect.
they even claim they're good for the economy! despite all evidence to the contrary. obama and bill clinton both had lengthy periods of expansion while both bushes had recessions -- shrub's being the worst since the 1930s.
and the list goes on.
sadly, it works. i good friend of ours is a texas republican. we generally avoid politics, but in one revealing conversation she admitted she knew republicans lied all the time. but she figured, democrats lie too and she likes the republican lies better....
