I used to be a vocal, outspoken supporter of Ronald Reagan. Like a lot of people, I got suckered by the sunny grin and the optimistic phraseology. I cast my vote for Bush Sr in 1988 and 1992. Conservative Republicanism was never a very good fit with my personal outlook, but it was popular in the '80's.

Like anyone with a brain and a heart, I was horrified by the Republican takeover of Congress in 1994. I voted for Bill Clinton in 1996. And sElection 2000 solidified my ideological outlook as a die-hard liberal Democrat. I found DU like an oasis in a desert in May, 2001. And I've been here ever since. People who know me know my personal political refrain: "Liberal till I DIE!"

I'm glad you have found the people who understand you. Welcome to DU.
